Warm days are here again

We have left Febraury behind us but I played for a lovely couple at their wedding, and judging by the weather you would have been forgiven for thinking it was summer! They enjoyed the warmenst day in February (24th), the occasion was perfect, I had a great time playing my pipes, chatting with the guests and encouraging the kids to have ago on the pipes!

I am looking forward to many more summery days to play my pipes this year, and of course meeting lots of people from all walks of life.

Burns Night

Here it is again, I am piping at the Jug Inn at Chapel Haddlsey on Saturday 29 January to mark Burns night. It is a charity evening for Cancer Research. Should be a good night……. I am really looking forward to it.

The weather has improved…

it’s hot!!! But it’s been great, I have played at a couple of weddings recently and believe me playing the bagpipes in this weather is hard work, nice thick wool jacket, wool glengarry (hat) and of course the kilt. None of that matters though, when you see the bride and groom enjoying their special day and knowing I have helped in making their day a memorable occasion, it’s a great feeling. Some of the tunes which are often requested are Highland Cathedral, a favourite of mine, Mari’s Wedding, Skye Boat Song and The Dark Island, all of which I love to play.

Wow…..it’s been great joining the world wide web….a huge thank you to those of you who have left comments on my page. Summer is upon us and the wedding season is well underway, just a shame about the weather but I understand it is about to improve, I certainly hope so as it makes such a difference to the bride and groom. Well my fingers are crossed!

At last…..I have made it online, welcome and thank you for visiting my web site. What do you think?

A female piper, unusual but just as good as a male! Like my web site says, I have been piping since I was very young. My family indulged my interest and supported me in becoming a highly skilled piper. My pipes were bigger than me at first but I grew into them. My Grandfather bought me the pipes I play today, they are around 30 years old now and the sound that comes from them is superb.

I owe my skills to Pipe Major Bill Munro, he spent many hours teaching me the Leumluath, Taorluath and Birl to the highest standard on the practice chanter before allowing me to progress to the pipes.

I am addicted to playing the pipes, it takes a lot of hard work and dedication but the results are amazing. I play regularly at public events with the City of Hull Pipe Band and solo at wedding parties, New Year and Burns nights.

This is a world away from my early piping days back in the 70’s, lessons in the police club at Hull docks, freezing and wishing I could ‘just do it’. Today I can ‘just do it’ so thought I’d take my chance on the world wide web and see what happens from here…till next time.
